About Us

Indian Dance in Fuchun Secondary School is one which focuses on inculcating values education through dance. We teach our dances values like responsibility by educating them on the importance of good attendance and participation in events. We also emphasize on camaraderie and the significance of working together as a team when it comes to staging a good performance. Through weekly practice sessions, our dancers are taught perseverance especially when faced with challenging roles and movements that are out of their comfort zone.

We focus on a variety of Indian Dance genres ranging from classical and semi-classical to traditional folk and contemporary. We provide many opportunities for them to gain exposure not just through school performances but externally as well. Our dancers have travelled to Perth, Australia and Beijing, China on cultural exchange programmes where they performed in the schools there too. In our 4/5-year programme, we believe in equipping our dancers with the skills necessary for them to learn progressively at their own pace and grow holistically as dancers. Bonding sessions every term help our students to learn through games and there are Values-in-Action programmes designed for them to explore community service through the arts.

There is no prerequisite necessary to join Fuchun's Indian Dance Team, as we believe strongly in moulding our dancers from scratch. We also welcome all races to join our team as we have a multi-racial group learning Indian Dance. At the moment we have an all-girls team, based on the dance-styles we expose our students to. So join our team today for an exciting dance journey!

Singapore Youth Festival 2017

Our Bhangra dance piece was one of the few SYF pieces that had packed plenty of punch this year during the SYF presentations. With a high-tempo soundtrack of various beats, the dancers performed with such infectious and tremendous energy, portraying the liveliness of a typical Punjabi wedding.

The dance was very energetic, with every possible way of moving and using the colourful and interactive props as the performers skipped, jumped and pranced on stage. There was a collective gasp from the audience as the props used also served as a sweet element of surprise in the entire 6-minute presentation.

Truly a commendable effort from the students and teachers of our Indian dance group; a sustained Certificate of Distinction in the SYF this year!
